The T&T Coalition of Service Industries just completed a 2 day workshop entitled ‘Simply Innovation’, led by David Pensak, fellow of the George Washington University.

The UFF report is a serious indictment of how business operates in Trinidad and Tobago. It would be a mistake to look at the observations and recommendations as pertinent only to the Government, UDECOTT and various Government agencies. Construction is one of the most significant sectors of our economy and one of the largest employers and consumers of goods and services. The way business is done in that industry has to be seen as a reflection of the wider business culture in the national economy.

New Zealand, as many know from the Lord of the Rings films is stunningly beautiful, and its government, businesses and people have developed it with keen awareness of humanity’s emotional and spiritual attraction to and awe of the natural environment. The accreditation of universities became an issue for debate sparked by the graduate qualifications of the new commissioner of police from Canada. Many views were expressed on the subject but informed comment was lacking. Businesses hire professionals with varied educational backgrounds and need to understand the matter of accreditation. Most advanced countries have systems for accrediting educational institutions but this article will highlight the U.S. system because of the current attention.
